The challenge of decarbonising heat
In the UK, domestic space heating accounts for approximately 20% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions. Combined, our domestic gas boilers emit twice as much CO2 as all the gas-fired power stations in the country.
One thing is very clear, we need to transform the way we heat our homes to reach Net Zero.
This event, which is being supported by the Energy Research Accelerator and University of Nottingham Energy Institute, will bring together academics, industrial stakeholders, and policy makers to discuss the challenges around decarbonising space heating in the country but more importantly, to explore innovative, exciting and potentially disruptive research work being carried out in UK universities that could accelerate our transition to zero-carbon heating.
The programme will broadly cover:
- The challenge of decarbonising heat
- Potential technological solutions (see speakers below)
- Policy recommendations
- Next steps
