Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity

The next annual Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity (FOSAC) will be held between 5-16th February 2024.  Now in its 9th year the festival is an established feature in the city and county, working with local communities, especially in areas of disadvantage, so people of all ages and backgrounds can participate, interact and have conversations about the questions they are curious about. The festival finds innovative ways to provide children and young people with that first spark of interest in a future with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM subjects).

The first week of the festival takes place during term time and encompasses a range of activities and events: these include scientists and researchers visiting schools, pupils getting out and visiting science sites, and students presenting their own science investigations. The festival works with pupils at all key stages, from early years to primary to secondary to college, and including special schools and alternative provision

You can find out more about the festival on their website (please note this is an external link).

Summer Scientist Week

During Summer Scientist Week, which takes place during the school summer holidays, children and parents learn about how the mind and brain work first-hand through playing fun games.

Throughout the week children aged between 4-11 years old spend half a day taking part in a range of research games and other fun activities. They complete a ‘log book’ to record the games they have taken part in and receive a small gift at the end of the session. Parents can follow up on our findings after the event via a newsletter and Facebook page.

This event is organised by the School of Psychology, and you can find further details here.

Science in the Park
As part of this annual event, scientists from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and a variety of local organisations join forces to provide a range of exciting family friendly activities at Wollaton Park. Previous events have included opportunities to find out more about X-rays, robots & lasers, geology and biology!
