Tackling agricultural sustainability challenges in collaboration with industry
The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Systems (CSAS) is positioned at the forefront of tackling sustainability challenges in agriculture through strategic industry partnerships.
CSAS consolidates expertise at the University of Nottingham into three pioneering research hubs that will drive sustainable agricutural research through industry and academic partnerships. Our expertise hubs, focused on regenerative farming, climate-smart crops, and digital agriculture, allow Nottingham’s world-leading researchers to support businesses make sustainable transitions. Our campuses in UK, China, and Malaysia, and our global network of partners allow us to support agricultural research around the world.

We work with farmers and businesses to develop sustainable practices, and help them quantify their impacts on crops, soils, livestock, water, biodiversity, and socio-economics
We are working to develop crop varieties and promote the use of underutilised crops that are better adapted to a changing climate, and underpin new ways of farming
We are at the forefront of integrating phenomics, spatial mapping, data modelling, and the opportunities presented by AI to support sustainable transitions in agriculture
To deliver research to our partners, we work with University of Nottingham’s world-leading facilities, from non-destructive X-ray CT imaging and advanced data analysis, to a 445 hectares working farm. These allow us to deliver ambitious research aligned to industry needs.
