Publishing using Dreamweaver
When your unix account has been set up to serve web pages (see
publishing) you will need software to upload
(copy) your pages and any images to the web server. If you use Dreamweaver
to write your pages, you can use Dreamweaver's built in publishing
facility, but you need to enter some information about the web server
that you want to publish to. You can do this when you define a site
in Dreamweaver, or you can edit the site definition if you have
already have a site set up in Dreamweaver. To edit the site definition
to enter the information about the University's web server, read
the instructions below or see a demo of this process.
- Open the DreamWeaver Site window (where you can see all your
files listed)
- From the Site menu, choose Define Sites
...
- Select the site you are working on (if you have more than one
site, you will need to go through steps 3 - 7 for each site)
- Click on Edit ...
- In the Category list on the left, select Remote Info
- From the drop-down list on the right, change the Access:
from None to FTP
- In the FTP Host: box on the right, type ftp.nottingham.ac.uk
- In the Host Directory: box type /home/yourusername/public_html
replace yourusername with your own username
- In the Login: box type your username
- Leave the Password box blank
it is more secure to enter your password each time you publish
your pages, than to save your password here.
- Click on OK
- If you have other web sites repeat steps 3 - 7, otherwise, click
on Done
Now you can use the Connect button on Dreamweaver's toolbar to
connect to the web server, and the Put button to publish selected
pages. Further resources on using Dreamweaver
are available.
