web sites accessible" on Weds 25th April 2001, 2pm
- 5pm, location to be confirmed (confirmed as C3, The Exchange
aka Central Teaching Facility, Jubilee Campus).
Session details:
Making web sites accessible: usability testing as an approach
to addressing accessibility issues.
Accessibility is one of a set of user-oriented issues currently
emerging as essential to the design and implementation of a any
web presence. Accessibility is also a key focus for the University
in ensuring compliance with HEFCE guidelines on ensuring equal access
for all University facilities. This session covers the basic ground-rules
for improving accessibility and then focuses on usability testing
as a primary method for identifying accessibility issues during
the process of implementing a web presence.
Process: Tutor input, group-work and hands-on use of computers
to carry out a usability study.
Tutor: John Walsh on behalf of TSDU. John Walsh is an experienced
web site developer and recently held the IT tutor post in the University's
Study Support Centre, working mainly with dyslexic students. From
the beginning of May, he will be working as the University's Humanities
Technology Officer.

(to tsdu@nottingham.ac.uk) by 11 April 2001. Places are limited
