Postgraduate Researcher and Part-Time Teacher,
Oscar O'Mara is a postgraduate researcher in Criminology within the School of Sociology and Social Policy and former Deputy Chief Scientific Advisor for the Ministry of Justice.
Oscar has delivered interdisciplinary projects across science, including evaluating less-than-lethal weapons and prison staff safety, conceptualising and researching wastewater monitoring for prison health surveillance, conceptualising and researching air sampling and ventilation in enclosed settings, researching prison cyber security, prison escapes, piloting clinical diagnostics in operational environments, and advising government ministers and senior leaders on science and innovation in response to the pandemic.
His current research interests include the relationship between prison policy and practice, criminological ethnography, environmental monitoring, and public health approaches to reoffending.
