Biography

Victoria Cluley is Assistant Professor in Sociology in The School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Nottingham. Victoria is also an honorary researcher at University of Liverpool and the University of Leicester. Victoria holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Nottingham, an MA in Public Health and a BSc in Environmental Health both from Nottingham Trent University.

Prior to this role, Victoria worked in a number of post doctoral research roles at University of Leicester and City, University of London, leading and delivering research studies addressing ageing, disability and chronic illness.

Before starting her PhD Victoria worked for nearly 10 years in local government in both Environmental Health and Health Promotion roles.

Expertise Summary

Victoria is a Sociologist with expertise in the sociology of health and illness. Victoria is specifically interested in ageing, chronic illness and disability. Victoria is a qualitative researcher with expertise in visual methods. Victoria is also interested in the application of social theory, particulalry Post-Humanism, to understand health and illness.

Current Research

Victoria is currently working on an ESRC funded study, Understanding the varied experiences of frailty in older age with respect to ethnicity: a mixed methods approach. Victoria is responsible for workstream two of this study, a photovoice study of older people's experiences of ageing and frailty.

Victoria is also part of the NightLife study team at the University of Leicester. NightLife is an NIHR funded clinical trial of nocturnal haemodialysis. Victoria supports with the qualitative arm of the trial and is external supervisor for Katherine Hull, a PhD candidate and clinical researcher working on the trial.

Past Research

Victoria has worked in post doctoral research roles on the Understanding Frailty study and the NightLife study.

Future Research

Victoria is currently planning a study to explore women's health experiences of haemodialysis and is seeking funding for this important study.
