BUCS gold to end the year for University of Nottingham Squash athlete
The University of Nottingham recently hosted the 2024 BUCS Squash Individuals Championships, with the #GreenandGold taking advantage of home comforts by winning medals in both women's and men's competitions. With outstanding performances from both seasoned competitors and emerging stars, it was a weekend to remember for the University of Nottingham Squash Club.

Held at David Ross Sports Village in the heart of the university campus, the 2024 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Squash Individuals Championships took place across the weekend of the 29th November to the 1st December. The championships saw the very best players from universities across the country compete to be crowned the best singles player and BUCS Individuals champion for 2024. The University of Nottingham entered athletes into both the men's and women's competitions, and with remarkable success.
In the Women’s A Grade competition, the exceptional Salma Eltayeb captured gold in a thrilling final, marking a triumphant moment for the university. The match turned into a captivating showdown between her and fellow Nottingham student and sport scholar Rana Ismail, representing an all-Nottingham finale that pushed Eltayeb to the end. Salma's victory was not just a testament to her talent but also the result of a tournament filled with powerful strokes, precision shots, and remarkable poise under immense pressure. Meanwhile, Ismail’s silver medal showcased her extraordinary abilities and highlighted her integral role in Nottingham’s squash prominence. Together, their achievements reflect the strength and spirit of the women’s squash program at the University of Nottingham, setting an inspiring standard for future competitions.
In the Men’s A Grade competition, Abdallah Eissa Mohamed claimed a well-deserved bronze medal after a commendable journey against some of the nation’s top players, with remarkable resilience and athleticism throughout the tournament. Demonstrating the ability to adapt to various opponents while maintaining composure in high-stakes moments, Abdallah's bronze medal stands as a testament to his brilliant preparation, and effort throughout the tournament.
Additionally, University of Nottingham Squash Club President Michael Tallentire exhibited not only his leadership but also an inspiring quality on the court by securing a silver medal in the Men’s B Grade competition. His success as club president mirrors his dedication to the sport and commitment to creating a supportive and high-achieving environment for his teammates.
Beyond the impressive medal tally, the championship weekend was a vibrant celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. The spirit of camaraderie among the University of Nottingham players was palpable both on and off the court, as teammates enthusiastically cheered for one another and revelled in the joy of their collaborative success.
