First year University of Nottingham student Esmeé Holgate competed in the Junior -70kg category at the championships - an event in which Holgate finished third in last year - and aimed to improve on this result in 2024. Esmeé, who also fights for Bredakwai Judo Club, moved into the semi-finals after winning her first bout at the championships. Holgate then defeated Paige Keane and Tara Nel Allen in the deciding knockout rounds to claim the national title.
Commonwealth Games medallist and former #GreenandGold BUCS champion Amy Platten fought up a weight in the Senior -52kg category at the national event, and battled impressively through the pool by winning both of her initial match-ups. Platten's run would end with a semi-final defeat to Maddy Kissenisky, but her magnificent efforts would deservedly earn her a bronze medal.
University of Nottingham Judo Club men’s captain Dylan Kirk (Junior -73kg) & women’s captain Jasmine Anderson (Senior +78kg) also fought extremely hard at the championships, taking on the best Judoka's in the country.
We would like to congratulate Esmeé on her national championship, as well all of our University of Nottingham athletes on their performances in this highly prestigious competition. You can see all of the results from the championships here and find out more here.
