Postgraduate MSc Graduate Entry Nursing induction timetable
Hello, my name is Maria Clark, and I am the Academic Plan Lead (APL) for Graduate Entry Nursing (GEN).
My role is to ensure your course runs as smoothly as possible and to work with the wider teams who support you to study well and sustain your learning for and in practice.
Congratulations and a warm welcome as you step into the University of Nottingham to start your nursing career. This is an exciting and demanding time for nursing as we respond to global health challenges in our regional hospitals and communities.
Nursing is a practical career that requires clinically competent compassionate decision-making to preserve the dignity and safety of those you care for. You'll bring many transferable graduate skills to nursing that will assist your accelerated learning. Equally, there is much new to learn about nursing culture and the changing context of caregiving in different health and social care environments.
Wearing a uniform is an important representation of nursing in many settings.
Below you'll find practical information to help you get started:
- you'll be provided with a uniform for clinical practice and this is free of charge.
- You're required to buy a clinical skills T-shirt for clinical skills learning.
- More information about uniform and skills T-shirt can be found on our uniform web page.
- Our uniform web page shows you what you'll need to wear for clinical skills sessions and while you're out on placement.
Supporting you through your learning journey
You'll be allocated a Personal Tutor for the duration of your two-year course. They will be able to provide pastoral support and signpost you to university student services and specialist wellbeing supports.
Please also familiarise with the range of academic support we offer:
- Year Lead for year two and year three is a named role guide to help your course (modular) progression towards end point achievement and transition for each year.
- Elective lead who will help you plan for a two-week elective placement (non-assessed).
- Module convenors (leads) who can answer queries about each module.
Interprofessional learning is a core strength of your course, supported by enquiry-based learning that will help you apply shared care principles to your discipline-specific field of practice.
I hope you enjoy your course as you progress your nursing career for improving patient and population health. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or further questions. I look forward to enabling your nursing transition here at the University of Nottingham.
Your induction is a programme of activities and events to introduce you to your school and course. It's important that you attend each induction activity to give you the best start to the year.
