Footwear

Midwifery and nursing students need to provide their own placement-appropriate shoes. These should be flat, leather-type supportive shoes with no-slip heels and soles. They should cover the whole foot and have quiet soles to comply with quieter ward requirements. These shoes will be used on all clinical placements and for clinical skills sessions in the university so make sure they're comfy.

You can purchase these shoes before you arrive or once you have started the course.

Physiotherapy and sport rehabilitation students may also be required to wear specialist footwear such as football boots when working in some areas. You'll be informed of specific clothing and footwear requirements for individual placements.

For Clinical Skills sessions a School of Health Sciences polo shirt (provided) should be worn with dark trousers. Dress trousers or jogging bottoms would be appropriate, but lycra or leggings would not. Placement appropriate footwear should also be worn.

Additional Clinical Skills polo shirts cost £12 and can be ordered through our online store. You may wish to order multiple polo shirts dependent upon your laundry facilities.

If you wish, you can also purchase School of Health Sciences fleeces and hoodies.
