Uniforms and dress codes

If you are studying nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy or sport rehabilitation please read on for important information about uniform and dress codes.

Students studying Foundation in Health Sciences or Health Promotion and Public Health do not need to wear uniform.

Uniforms for placements

Uniforms are an important part of your professional identity, as well as being clothing designed to ensure the safety of students, staff and patients in clinical settings.

You are required to wear uniform when on placements outside university and when undertaking ‘simulated practice’ in our clinical teaching spaces in university.

Please scroll down to your subject to read about your uniform and place your order.

Nursing BSc

Your uniform consists of a pale blue tunic with white trim and navy-blue trousers.

We will provide you with three sets of clinical uniform and one polo shirt for you to wear during your simulated practice classes. You can purchase additional polo shirts from our online store at the bottom of this page if required.

You will need to provide:

  • Dark coloured plain trousers or jogging bottoms to wear with your polo shirt in simulated practice classes. Leggings are not suitable.

  • One pair of flat, leather-type supportive shoes with non-slip heels and soles. Your shoes must cover the whole foot and have quiet soles to comply with the requirements of quieter wards. Different placement settings may have different regulations relating to shoes. Our guidelines are designed to meet the requirements of all placement settings, meaning that you only need to buy one pair of shoes that you can wear on any placement.

What to do now

Check your measurements against our sizing chart and remember that you need to leave plenty of room in your clothing to stetch, reach, bend and move around.
