Before you arrive

Before you arrive in September there are several key tasks you'll need to complete.

Lab coats

All students will be required to wear a white Howie lab coat when working in a laboratory.  

We'll provide this for you. In order for us to get you the right size, we will arrange for you to try on coats once you have started the course, Please be aware that you may need a larger size so that it can be worn over winter clothing as the labs can be cold during the winter.

View the course handbook 

You’ll receive a link by email to the course handbook that you can read before you start the course. 

The handbook contains such as the modules you will be studying.  You will also find information on policies, procedures and any support requirements.  

Once you are registered on the course you will be given access to Moodle (student online learning platform) where are able to download a copy of the course handbook along with the module workbooks.

Get membership to the Physiological Society 

The Physiological Society is Europe’s largest network of physiologists and have been at the forefront of science for 140 years. Bringing together over 4000 scientists from over 60 countries, members have included over 60 Nobel Prize winners from Ivan Pavlov to John O’Keefe. 

Membership for undergraduate and master’s students studying physiology, biomedical or life sciences disciplines is free for your first year. There is a joining fee of £11.

Online registration 

Before you start, you'll receive an email (to your personal email used on your application) with your student ID and information on how to activate your student IT account and complete online registration

Follow the instructions on the university's central Welcome pages before you arrive at the university to make sure you have completed what you need for registration.

ID cards

You'll be able to collect your university card from Monday 23rd September to Friday 18th October (excluding weekends) from a collection point on the campus where your school or course is located.  From Monday 23 October onwards, you'll be able to collect your card from your designated Home Student Service Centre. 

Note: If you are an international student, planning to arrive at the university’s Halls of Residence between Thursday 19th September to Sunday 20th September, you'll receive a temporary card that will enable access to buildings. You'll be expected to exchange the temporary card for your university card when you collect it.

Moodle

Once you've completed your online registration you can login to Moodle, the University of Nottingham's online learning environment, and familiarise yourself with the School of Medicine student information on Moodle.
