Check out the recommended activities for Oncology and Cancer Immunology and Biotechnology

We are often asked to recommend some introductory reference books or activities for new students on our courses. Here are some suggestions which provide a good introduction to the subject areas we teach.

It is not recommended that you buy, or even read, all of these if it adds financial or academic pressure prior to the course. We do encourage reading through a well-chosen few, which should give you some useful background material for the course if you feel you need it.

You should be able to access these books from our libraries when you arrive. In order to read any of the books which are available online, you will need to have registered for your online student account.

The seminal paper by Hanahan and Weinberg on the ‘Hallmarks of Cancer: The Next Generation’ and the recent updated version are  great papers to familiarise yourself with. They will provide a good introduction to the subject area.

The following books are also recommended:

  • The Biology of Cancer by Robert A Weinberg

  • Immunobiology by Charles Janeway

If you're unable to access these books online, you'll be able to access during induction week via the University of Nottingham library.
