The role of a Personal Tutor?
A personal tutor is a dedicated staff member who has been trained to support you through your student journey, ensuring you reach your full potential. They will help you develop professionally and personally to advance your career after graduation.
You will be allocated to a personal tutor for the duration of your postgraduate course and are requested to meet with them at set points through the year when you review and reflect on your progress and to set developmental goals.
How can a personal tutor help me?
A few things your personal tutor can help you with are:
-
Supporting you in encouraging your self-appraisal, reflection and goal setting
-
Acting as a gateway to the wider support available in the School of Medicine and the university
-
Providing reference for employment and act as a professional ”friend”.
There are also other staff members that can support you alongside your personal tutor such as:
-
Senior tutors who are there for any issues you do not feel able to discuss with your personal tutor for whatever reason
-
Director of Student Wellbeing who oversees everything relating to welfare provision and promotion and is there to help in complex situations
