Your Students’ Union (SU) is at the heart of student life

They are an independent, student-led organisation that represents your needs, protects your rights and, when it comes to making important decisions that affect you, makes sure your voice is heard. And as a University of Nottingham student, you’re already a valued and celebrated member of the SU.

From its home in the Portland Building, the SU works hard to make sure your university experience is the best it can be, from the day you arrive to the day you graduate. They’re here to make sure that you can experience a huge range of social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities, make changes by standing up for what you believe in, and find support when you need a helping hand.

Become an SU course rep

Course reps are a vital part of the student voice. Through gathering feedback from your peers, sitting in key meetings and by lobbying or campaigning for positive change, you can make a real difference to the academic experience of those on your course.

Music societies

The two Music societies help build a community by hosting and supporting events, being a resource for students and hosting social gatherings.

Mussoc

We are the University of Nottingham's biggest music society. We are primarly a course and career based society, which means we work with the department to provide workshops as well as other events that help with careers within music.

Alongside this we also have several ensembles, ranging from a 50+ piece symphonic orchestra to SATB choirs and jazz orchestras. You don't have to be a music student to join our society!

Blowsoc

Blowsoc offers conducting and playing opportunities for woodwind, brass and percussion players. We have 9 ensembles which are mostly unauditioned apart from our wind orchestra and Moonlighters Big Band; so anyone can join us whether you have a diploma or picked up a flute last week! As well as our weekly rehearsals we have an active social side to the society and our European tour over Easter!
