Before you arrive
We are looking forward to your arrival and hope that your stay will be happy, successful and rewarding.
Induction
Course induction for all students will begin on Monday 25 September with a welcome and introduction from the year leaders and the Head of School, Prof. Mark Fromhold. Afterwards, you will meet your personal tutor and student mentor to talk about your course and arrange your weekly tutorial sessions.
The times and locations for these events, as well as the rest of the induction programme for physics, will be available here later in the summer.
IT account
Make sure you activate your university IT account and email address before you arrive and check your email regularly.
Computing and textbooks
Computing resources are available in the school and all libraries, but we recommend bringing your own laptop or similar device to university if possible. If you’re considering buying a laptop for your studies, please see our advice about suitable equipment. If you are unable to afford a device, you can apply for supporting funds or short-term laptop loans.
An electronic copy of the physics textbook will be provided at induction. Other textbooks are available through the library, either in physical copy or, for many books, electronically.
