Your cheat sheet to nailing academic life
#UoNFreshers – Here’s your cheat sheet to nailing your academic life.
What to expect with progressing to uni
The unknown can always seem a little daunting and we know you’ll be anticipating what university life is really like. There is no better way than to hear it first-hand from our current students, so take the opportunity to talk to them through our live chat. But we’re also here to tell you more about what we know you’ll need to prepare for.
The difference coming from school and college
The biggest change for you will be the way you learn. You’ll have a boost of freedom and a lot more independence, as you’ll have chosen a course you want to study rather than following a curriculum. The teaching methods at university mean you’ll be in larger lecture theatres and seminar rooms, this is where you’ll be taught the main content of your course and a really great way to meet new people.
Our campus
Whether you are continuing from college or coming to us from a place of work – our campus’ will probably be bigger than what you’re used to. Our stunning spaces and innovative buildings will give you the right environment to study, socialise and be zen. Don’t worry if you can’t find your way at first, you’ll soon get used to it and there are lots of people around to help you navigate to where you want to be.
Moving away from home
If you’re thinking about leaving home and living closer to university, we know this can seem overwhelming. Whether it’s your first time living away from your family, or your first time living alone, we have university support and social groups that can make your living experience easier. Being more responsible is a big step for all of us, but preparing for your move can make you feel calmer and in control.
