Does IWB use in HE support ‘deep learning’, and is the transfer of IWB practices from secondary school settings always desirable or appropriate?
Commonplace for many years in primary and secondary schools, interactive whiteboards (IWB) are increasingly being used in HE settings. Whilst there is a wealth of research and publications on IWB uses in school settings, to date there is relatively little research on IWB use in HE.
The VLL is currently developing a series of case studies examining this use. This work began with a case study in the University of Nottingham’s School of Pharmacy. The case study was based on observations conducted during lectures and seminars when IWBs were used, and subsequent interviews conducted with 3 groups of Year 1 and Year 2 Pharmacy students.
Complete case studies based on this research will be available in 2010. In the meantime, please contact Rolf Wiesemes if you wish to discuss this project.
