About this event
With rapid advancements in technology and a changing customer landscape, how can we ensure our business marketing is both effective and future proofed? In this panel discussion, we bring together leading experts from the University of Nottingham, the University of Oxford and digital marketing agency, Hallam, to explore the future of marketing.
We’ll be looking at:
· the need to balance short term and long term objectives in marketing
· the changing face of the customer and the need for inclusive marketing design
· marketing technologies: the opportunities and the pitfalls
· perennial marketing – the “eternal truths” of marketing that will never change
Join us at this free event to dispel some common marketing myths and gain insight into what you should be focusing on in your business’ marketing for 2022 and beyond.

Charlotte Tomlinson - Hallam
As Organic Performance Director, Charlotte leads Hallam’s award-winning SEO and content marketing teams. With over 10 years experience in marketing, she was previously Hallam's Head of SEO, running many successful campaigns for B2B and B2C SMEs and enterprise-level clients. Charlotte studied English Language and Literature at Oxford University where she honed her research and analytical skills.
Dr Benjamin Lucas - University of Nottingham
Dr Benjamin Lucas is the Managing Director of the University of Nottingham’s Data-Driven Discovery Initiative (3DI.ac.uk) and a Fellow at TrackTheEconomy.ac.uk. Benjamin also teaches (MSc and Executive MBA) and conducts research within the Marketing Department of Nottingham University Business School. His research is focused primarily on applied machine learning, network analysis and multimedia content discovery.
Jake Third - Hallam
As Managing Director of Hallam, Jake's background combines over 10 years of experience in marketing & business development, 5 years in senior leadership roles and also a technical background in Maths. In his spare time, Jake is currently studying for his MBA and volunteers as a listener at a leading UK charity which supports people experiencing isolation.
Dr Ruxandra-Elena Francu - University of Nottingham
Dr. R. Elena Francu is an Assistant Professor within the Marketing Division at Nottingham University Business School. Elena's research focuses on deploying sensor technology to generate insights into the dynamics of product and service innovation teams. In her research, Elena works in collaboration with a number of companies in sectors such as professional services, software and ICT, financial services, medical technology, veterinary pharmaceutics, and education.
Julio Taylor - Hallam
Julio is CEO of international digital marketing agency, Hallam. Formerly Creative Director, he started designing and building websites in the late 90s, hacking together Geocities websites, frames, and table layouts. After studying Computer Science, he worked as a software developer in the oil industry and public sector, before coming back to digital and web in 2009.
After co-founding web agency BigSpring in 2008, the agency later merged with Hallam, following several years of collaborative work.
Dr Naomi Muggleton
Dr Naomi Muggleton is a Data Scientist and Research Fellow in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford. Naomi has a background in psychology, evolutionary psychology and behavioural economics and has worked with partners including Lloyds Bank and the Alan Turing Institute. Naomi’s research focuses on natural experiments with large datasets to infer well-being and decision-making processes, including innovative new research in the analysis of "spending entropy" to predict future financial distress among consumers.
