Thursday, 04 July 2024
We’re delighted to announce that third year Architect Degree Apprentice, Rachel Levy, has won the coveted RIBA Silver Medal Nomination Award at the university’s annual architecture end of year show!

Working for AtkinsRéalis in London whilst undertaking her Architect Degree Apprenticeship, Rachel has also been shortlisted for the AJ New Talent Award. Hear what she has to say about her accomplishments:

To have won the RIBA Silver Medal Nomination Award for my academic work whilst also being shortlisted for the AJ New Talent Award for my contributions to practice shows anything is possible! Balancing commitments can be extremely challenging on the Architect Degree Apprenticeship, and I hope that these achievements will highlight the value of architecture degree apprentices more widely, the contribution of apprentices to the industry, and the high academic standards that can be achieved.
Rachel Levy, Level 7 Architect Degree Apprentice at AtkinsRéalis.

The RIBA Silver Medal Nomination Award is amongst the most prestigious awards within the UK and is a testament to Rachel’s exceptional talent and dedication to her degree apprenticeship. It’s clear to see from the recognition that she is one of the most promising emerging architects in the UK and her achievements demonstrate the value of degree apprenticeships.

Using her skills, knowledge and behaviours from the Architect Degree Apprenticeship Level 7, Rachel also took home the RIBA East Midlands Award as well as two commendations for her work: the Urban Design Award and Design for Community Award.

A fantastic achievement for Rachel and well-deserved! She is an inspiration to anyone on the degree apprenticeship programmes as to what’s possible. We’re so proud to celebrate her success.
Graeme Barker, Course Director for the Architecture Degree Apprenticeship.

Whilst working full-time for AtkinsRéalis, Rachel has created a design portfolio as part of her degree apprenticeship that demonstrates excellent quality, creativity, and commitment to sustainable design principles.

This is an outstanding achievement; we are tremendously proud of Rachel! Her skill and dedication shine through in everything she sets her mind to, both at work and university. Her ambition and ability to not only balance the apprenticeship but excel in all areas is truly inspiring. Rachel is certainly a rising star and a credit to AtkinsRéalis, University of Nottingham and the industry as a whole. Congratulations Rachel!

If you would like to see Rachel’s work, or that of our current apprentices it’s being shown at our Architecture Exhibition: exhibit!24 until Friday 19 July. It’s your chance to see the innovative project work created by our on-programme apprentices.

The University of Nottingham first launched its Architect Degree Apprenticeship in 2019 enabling apprentices to gain their Part 2 and MArch whilst working, combining the best of practice experience and research-led education. The university’s programme was the number one choice for apprentices on the Architect Degree Apprenticeship in 2022/23; helping to change the face of architectural qualification with a revolutionary new way to earn and learn.1
