A day dedicated to degree apprenticeships

Sharing experiences and networking across industries was high on the agenda for our annual Degree Apprenticeship Employer Engagement Day!

We invited partner employers and those considering accessing our Degree Apprenticeships to join us at our University Park Campus to take part in our day, designed to foster a strong apprenticeship community across our provision.

From our Annual Employer Forums to our engaging workshops to our useful information sessions – it was a jam-packed day full of Degree Apprenticeship discussions! If you couldn’t make it on the day, here’s what you missed.

Working with business at the university

Partner employers met over our networking breakfast, offering them a chance to make new connections and share their experiences on programme before a morning welcome from the university’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jo Simpson.

She spoke about the importance of creating strong connections with our partner employers and how collaborations can bring benefit to business, students and our wider communities.

“I’m incredibly proud of the growth of our Degree Apprenticeship offer. It highlights the importance of developing real world opportunities for our students and aligning them with our employer community. Enabling greater flexibility for students and earlier rewards for employers."
Jo Simpson, Chief Commercial Officer at the University of Nottingham.

"Our Degree Apprenticeship offer continues to go from strength to strength and our employer partners are critical to this success. The energy and insight they bring has helped us to create a programme portfolio that drives innovation, thought leadership and long-term workforce development.

As a university, we have so many opportunities to support the growth of our partners through new and innovative ways of working. I am excited to create a future where all our employer partners have the opportunity to optimise and grow their organisations through new and strategic partnerships with the University”.

Fostering new connections across our employer communities

The programme sessions kicked off with our Annual Employer Forums designed to enable employers accessing our apprenticeships to meet with our academic teams and apprenticeship support staff to feed into the future development of our programmes, share experience and advice across cohorts and take part in discussions to support them in drawing the most from their apprenticeship experience at Nottingham.

“The University of Nottingham is shaping the future, equipping the next generation of data scientists with the skills to turn data into innovation — actively listening to industry needs and adapting their courses to meet evolving business demands. They truly are producing first class Data Scientists."
Sam Jamasebi, Head of Data Science at Toyota.

Exploring our wider business offering

It was then time to break for lunch which was a chance to have some time to network and explore the university’s wider business offering at our exhibition.

Designed to support our partner and prospective employers with accessing all the available business support at the university, there were a range of exhibitors showcasing the pathways towards partnering with us.

“Our annual Employer Engagement Day is a testament to the power of ongoing collaboration between our university and our valued employer community.
Lizzy Martin, Employer Engagement Manager at the University of Nottingham.

"We appreciate the time and effort employers take out of their busy schedules to be a part of our community and engage in meaningful conversations around apprenticeships. True investment in talent development is more than enrolling learners on-programme, it’s an active partnership that flourishes through continued engagement.

As their chosen training provider, we’re committed to supporting employers and apprentices throughout their Degree Apprenticeship and we value time spent in person - thank you to all the employers who attended!”

An afternoon of insightful sessions

The afternoon offered attendees the opportunity to take part in a selection of engaging workshops and information sessions designed to support them in building a talent pipeline for the future.

The workshops covered a range of topics including Inclusive Hiring and Recruiting Apprentices whilst also offering an Inclusive Leadership taster session from Dr Andri Georgiadou, about how to create truly inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive.
