New Programme Director for Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprenticeship

Tuesday, 06 August 2024
We’re thrilled to announce that Dr Elizabeth Bishop will be the new Programme Director in the 2024/5 academic year for the Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprenticeship programme.

Dr Bishop joined the University of Nottingham as an Assistant Professor in July 2022 as the first full-time member of teaching staff dedicated to our newly formed Electro-Mechanical Engineer Degree Level Apprenticeship. She brings with her a wealth of expertise, having completed her MEng in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing at the University of Warwick.

She is a leading figure when it comes to pioneering new ways of working and is at the forefront of the latest developments in engineering design. Recently, she attended the Autodesk Design and Make Summit to discuss how degree apprenticeships can bridge engineering skills gaps in the workforce and train future engineers.

Moreover, Dr Bishop is a passionate advocate for women in STEM and a leading voice for women in engineering at the university. See what she has to say:

“My advice to aspiring women in engineering is to not be afraid to try, either you will succeed or you will fail, and you can learn from it – just like in Design! Don’t be afraid to speak out and go for what you want in life – it took me a while to realise this, and without that realisation I would not be where I am today.”
Dr Elizabeth Bishop, Programme Director.

She’s one of our biggest champions of the Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprenticeship and has enjoyed teaching on the programme as well as coordinating pastoral care for apprentices to ensure their success.

“I'm looking forward to taking on a larger role in leading our Electro-Mechanical Engineer Degree Level Apprenticeship and I am excited to see how we can grow this programme as the future evolves.”

In her spare time, you can find her designing, creating and 3D printing everything from useful gadgets to board game accessories. Having recently established a small maker space and “Maker Club” at the University of Nottingham, she hopes to encourage this exploration of design and making in the student and university community.

We hope you will join us in welcoming her to her new role!
