The University of Nottingham has the world’s largest group of electrification researchers, with 170 academics, research fellows and PhD students researching, developing, manufacturing and testing electrification technologies for automotive, rail, marine and aerospace. The Power Electronics, Machines and Control Research Group has more than 40 private-sector partners and 80% of funding is directly or indirectly industry-related.
The £40m Power Electronics and Machines Centre (PEMC) has an unrivalled a 20MW research and demonstration capability and hosts the UK Electrication of Aerospace Propulsion Facility. The PEMC opened in 2022 on Jubilee Campus and is equipped with industry-leading infrastructure to helps us research and prototype novel machines and test them under extreme, real-life conditions. The PEMC’s innovations in testing at scale, speed, and higher levels of automation are helping accelerate the pace at which zero carbon solutions are brought to market.
