Inter-Campus Exchange programme

The Inter-Campus Exchange Programme gives eligible students the opportunity to study abroad for a semester or a year during the second year of their degree programme at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.

The study abroad period is part of your existing degree programme and is an amazing opportunity to experience your degree subject from a different perspective, within a new culture, whilst continuing to study at the University of Nottingham.

Please be aware that study abroad, compulsory year abroad, optional placements/internships and integrated year in industry opportunities may change at any time for a number of reasons, including curriculum developments, changes to arrangements with partner universities or placement/industry hosts, travel restrictions or other circumstances outside of the university's control. Every effort will be made to update this information as quickly as possible should a change occur.

From our students

"What an amazing six months! Malaysia has friendly people, flavoursome food and fantastic biodiversity! From the moment I walked onto the University’s Malaysia Campus I felt welcome. There were students from many countries, creating a great learning environment both academically and socially.

Tropical ecosystems became so much more real as I studied them; the lecturers have a real depth of knowledge and a passion for conservation which comes through in the more intimate lecture environment with small class sizes"

About the programme

Destination

University of Nottingham Malaysia opened in 2005 and is located an 45 minutes' drive from the capital Kuala Lumpur. It is the first purpose-built campus of a British university outside the UK.

The degrees awarded are University of Nottingham degrees, and the courses and teaching are subject to the same Quality Assurance processes as courses and teaching in the UK.

The campus provides a high quality living environment for students in addition to state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. Fully furnished accommodation is available on campus.

Eligibility

For BSc Agricultural and Crop Science (subject to academic approval), BSc Biotechnology, BSc Environmental Biology, BSc/MSci Environmental Science, BSc Nutrition and BSc Plant Science (Spring Semester only).

Applicants must have attained a minimum overall average of 50% with no reassessments to be considered.

  • Successful applicants who choose to take 6 months during the second year of their degree on this programme can also take one semester on the International Exchange Programme.
  • Successful applicants who choose to take 12 months during the second year of their degree on this programme cannot take any other study abroad option.  This is because at least 50% of the teaching and learning that comprise the course has to take place at one of the UoN UK campuses.

Academic requirements

Students must contact their Course Director to discuss modules prior to application.

University of Nottingham Malaysia is part of the University of Nottingham, and all classes are taught in English.

The modules and the exams are very similar to those in Nottingham UK.

Finance

All students who study abroad at the Malaysia Campus pay a reduced tuition fee to the University of Nottingham UK during the academic year when they study abroad.

Specific bursaries may also be available.

Living costs in Malaysia are significantly lower than in the UK.
