Phil completed an MChem at the University of East Anglia, with an undergraduate project on calixarene synthesis. He later moved to the University of Nottingham, using crystallography and computational techniques to study oligomerisation effects in transaminases.
The research group he currently belongs to at the University of Nottingham, is interested in the natural products of fungal non-ribosomal peptide synthetase-like enzymes, of which the current structural and mechanistic understanding is limited.
