Biography

I received a degree in Biochemistry from the University of York followed by a PhD at the University of Nottingham where I studied under Prof. Yash Mahida investigating the role of intestinal myofibroblasts in inflammatory bowel disease. During this period, I also undertook work using murine models of parasite infection and inflammation.

I was subsequently employed as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Nottingham where I worked on intestinal stem cells in the murine gut using in vivo mouse models.

In 2011, I moved to a senior postdoctoral post in a joint appointment role between the University of East Anglia and the Institute for Food Research. Work was focussed primarily on the understanding of interactions between the gut epithelium and the intestinal microbiota.

In 2015, I joined Mars Petcare as a Research Manager in digestive health and as microbiome work-stream lead where my responsibilities included providing strategic direction, compiling and presenting business cases to senior management to secure internal funding, developing and maintaining collaborations with key external organisations, managing internal stakeholder interactions with varied business units and managing the delivery of the research through a team of researchers.

I finally returned to the University of Nottingham in June 2019 in my current role.
