Responsibilities
As the Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO), Richard is the driving force behind professional operational service and strategic performance across the University. Overseeing critical functions that ensure the University's foundational success and operational performance. He is a key member of the senior leadership team, and partner with the Vice-Chancellor to manage University operations effectively, significantly impacting strategy and decision-making.
Richard is instrumental in enhancing performance across professional services, which supports the delivery of teaching, student experience and research, and accountable for performance across professional services overall. At the forefront of the University progress, he ensures competitiveness in resources, efficiency, and service quality.
As a leader in organisational culture and values, Richard plays a vital role in promoting and elevating the University’s stature and reputation. Part of his core responsibilities is to ensure professional services align seamlessly with academic excellence, supported by a forward-thinking digital and physical infrastructure.
Alongside this, Richard oversees progress on delivering strategy goals, adapting, and adjusting where necessary. Helping to ensure the future viability and sustainability of the University’s core offer through analysis and sector insights. He also has a focus on cohesion and efficiency, and work towards guaranteeing high-quality service to staff and students while driving the University’s strategic objectives. Richard contributes significantly to broader University strategies and foster strong corporate and civic partnerships that support academic goals and innovate service delivery.
Profile
Richard graduated from the University of Bath with a postgraduate degree in Higher Education Management and has an MBA from University College London.
Prior to joining the University, Richard worked with Birbeck University of London as Director of Strategic Programmes and assisted both the University of Kent and Goldsmiths University of London on their transformation Programmes and numerous other projects.
