The diversity of our student population

There are 34,000 students studying at our UK campuses across our five faculties and schools/departments covering disciplines as diverse as modern languages, civil engineering and health sciences to computer science, law and economics.

Our students are taking a wide range of full-time, part-time and distance learning courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, for example, master's and PhDs.

We are proud of the diversity of our student population and we have produced a guide for you. If you would like to find out more about our students, then please email your request to our Business Development Manager, Vicky Torr.

Graduate Immigration Route

Under the UK's new Graduate Immigration Route, international graduates will be able to stay in the UK to work or look for work for up to two years after completing their studies, or up to three years after completing a PhD course. You can find out more about the graduate immigration route here. This is a great option to explore for your business.

This new visa route means you can hire an international graduate for up to three years without any visa related costs or the need to provide employer sponsorship.

Read the guide below to help you understand this in more depth along with other ways to hire international graduates permanently.

Update - June 2024

There has been no change to the cost of gaining a sponsorship licence for employers but the salary requirements for sponsorship have changed.

Interestingly UK-educated international graduates gain a discount on this salary level meaning you can pay them less than the “going rate salary” requirement for skilled worker sponsorship. The rate you pay would depend on the role they are doing.

Hiring international students - an employer's perspective

Jake Third, Managing Director at Hallam, talks about everything from gaining a sponsorship licence to hiring an international student through the Skilled Worker visa route.

Hiring international students is much more accessible than you might think and is a great way to open your business up to new international talent.
