Staff in the Department of American & Canadian Studies are celebrating after receiving a number of awards from the British Association for American Studies (BAAS). The awards ceremony took place during the Association's annual conference, which this year was held at the University of Exeter from April 18-21.

Research on Contemporary Slavery blog

Description
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the US Emancipation Proclamation. Signed and issued by President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War on January 1, 1863, the order proclaimed free all those enslaved in the Confederate States.
