European Day of Languages 2017
On the 22 September 2017 the School of Cultures Languages and Area Studies hosted a fast-paced, fun event for 120 Year 9 pupils to celebrate the European day of Languages. Schools from Nottingham and Derby brought their pupils to have a go at learning Mandarin, Portuguese, Japanese, Russian and Polish as well as engage with the digital language learning facilities and take part in a student-devised treasure hunt. The purpose of the day is to celebrate language learning and open the pupils’ minds to the possibilities of picking up additional languages to study, either for fun or as part of a university degree in the future. It is a very popular event with local schools and we often welcome back alumni in their role as Modern Language teacher. The day would not be possible without the goodwill and talents of colleagues and students so a huge thank you to Cecilia Goria, Sujing Xu, Monika Savage, Zhuo Sun, Sandra Reisenleuter, Mikiko Kurose, Marilena Minoia and student ambassadors Rianna Gurden, Katie Bradshaw, Emma Kelly, James Foster, Milli Antwi, Jazmine Greenaway, Rebecca Cheshire and Kassia Rodgers. Warmest thanks to them all.
