There are a number of ways you can get both 1-2-1 and remote support to help you get up and running with your devices and IT equipment in your first few weeks and beyond.

During the start of each academic year, we provide additional support to help you get set up and connected to a wide range of IT services.

IT Smart Bar assistants

Our IT assistants are available when you arrive on campus to provide on-the-spot support and help you get set up. 

In September and October, you will find our IT assistants at the following locations: 

  • Roaming near university Halls of Residence *
  • Near Student Service Centres
  • Our virtual Smart Bar

Full details including dates, times and locations are as follows:

Faculty IT Induction

During your welcome weeks, we are hosting IT Inductions for each Faculty. Check your timetable and attend the induction to get started and discover more about the services available.

Links on the schedule below have been updated with the recordings of each session and the presentation slides are available.

IT freshers survey

Are you a first year student? We would welcome your feedback on your experience so far.

From Monday 7 October, our survey will open. Complete the survey for your chance to win an IT goodie bag (includes Amazon voucher, power bank, wireless mouse and earphones plus much more).

Contact our IT Service Desk

Our dedicated IT Service Desk is available 24/7, and we have experts on hand to help with all your IT needs.

check_circle   We offer specialist support with IT accounts, passwords, Multi-Factor Authentication and all other IT services

check_circle   Call on 0115 95 16677 to log a support call

check_circle   From Monday - Friday, between 8am - 5:15pm, our in house team will be on hand to take your calls. Outside of these hours, you will be put through to an out-of-hours team, who will endeavour to resolve your issue.

Smart Bars

The Smart Bar is a term-time service offering peer-to-peer IT support and advice on a wide range of queries, including your IT account, laptop and mobile devices, email, Microsoft 365, Teams and software options.

Smart Bars are currently closed and will re-open the week commencing 21 October until end of term.
