Visiting academics and postdoctoral scholars

We welcome academic visitors who want to join us to conduct high-quality research and knowledge exchange that makes a difference.

Unfortunately, we have limited capacity to host visitors and careful consideration will be given before any requests will be accepted. It must be clear what benefits to the applicant, host and the school will be achieved through the visit. Typical examples include joint publication, developing research proposals for funders or conducting joint research. Therefore, it is expected that visitors will already be involved in working with their host and we do not encourage general speculative applications.

The academic visitors’ status is for the period of the visit only, which typically will be for one semester but could, in exceptional circumstances, be up to a year.  If the academic visitor requires a visa, it is very important to follow the university processes, policies and procedures for academic visitors.

Please note, that PGR students are not academic visitors, see the relevant university policy on visiting  postgraduate students.

If we can support your visit we are able to provide academic visitors with a dedicated visiting scholar's workspace and with mail, telephone and computer network access. Visitors can use their own email provision or a university email account. Library and photocopying access will be provided as will an ethics induction.
