We are... treasure hunters

Gregory-Walker

As part of the third-year 'Single Author Study' module, I got the opportunity to look at the handwritten DH Lawrence manuscripts and letters which are stored at the King's Meadow Campus. It was an incredible experience to be able to get so close to the creative process of such an amazing writer and feel a connection with that writer as a living person, rather than just a historical figure. One of the most remarkable aspects of it was that you could follow how his writing had taken shape over time. Lawrence edited and revised extensively, and you can see that process recorded in the notes he made by hand on earlier drafts of his work. If you’re interested in DH Lawrence, there’s no better place to study him than at the University of Nottingham, where he was once a student himself.

The 'Single Author Study' module

This third-year module provides a detailed introduction to the major works of a single author (e.g. James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, DH Lawrence).

You will select one author to study from a range on offer. You will then have the opportunity to consider in detail important thematic and stylistic aspects of your chosen author’s work, taking account of the chronological development of his/her writing practice (if relevant), and his/her relationship to key historical and literary contexts.

This module is available on the English BA and English Language and Literature BA.
