We are an experienced, ambitious Product Team of designers, developers, testers and problem solvers.  We create compelling mobile apps for the university supported by powerful digital solutions.

 

As a team we want to provide mobile services that provide users with access to the latest mobile technology.

Working with our students and colleagues across the university, we are on a mission to deliver an inclusive global mobile experience providing the individual with timely and relevant content and services that will enhance university engagement.

Meet the team

The Mobile App Product Team was formed in April 2019 and comprises of both full and part-time resource drawn from External Relations and Digital and Technology Services (DTS).   

Working as a self-managing, self-organising Product Team and using agile techniques and scrum methodology we deliver rapid change in 2-week sprints.

Frequently asked questions

I’ve got an idea, where do I start?
Please email the Mobile App Team and give us a high-level overview of your idea and what your potential app is going to do.

We will reply to you in a timely manner and discuss next steps.
 
How long will it take to build and deliver my app?
The Mobile App Team will initially discuss your requirements with you and provide you with an indication of delivery timescales, which will be dependent on various factors including:

  • Complexity of the app required and scale
  • Whether bespoke functionality is required
 
We may require changes after our app is launched, would this be possible?
Once an app has been released and is under the support of the Mobile App Team new requests for change may be submitted at any time. These requests will be reviewed with the Sponsor and a delivery approach and cost agreed.
 
Will my app work on every mobile device both iOS and Android?

Generally speaking every app will work on the most recent versions of both iOS and Android operating systems.

We cannot guarantee support for every older OS version so our support model is as follows:-

  • iOS support - the latest two major production release versions of the iOS operating system
  • Android support - the latest four major production release versions of the Android operating system 
 
What mobile standards will my app be built to?
The mobile team builds apps to meet or exceed the following standards:-

  • Latest iOS and Android development guidelines and best practice
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard
  • Data compliance via UoN DPIA process and applicable legislation
  • Equality compliance via UoN EIA process and applicable legislation
 
As a customer what will be expected of me in the process of creating my app?
Every project is different but typically your involvement may include some or all of the following:-

  • A clear indication of the app requirements including required functionality, scope and delivery timescales
  • Attendance ( either in person or online ) to Agile planning sessions
  • Decision making and guidance regarding features and prioritisation of those features
  • Ad hoc communication as required to deliver the project
 
How much will it cost to produce my app?
The cost of any app will completely depend on the complexity of the request and the amount of resource the Mobile App Team will need to deliver that request.

As a rule, the Mobile App Team are non-profit making and will only seek to cover any costs incurred. A clear indication of the total cost will be provided and agreed with the Sponsor prior to the commencement of work.
 
How will users download my app and how will it be promoted? 
All apps developed by the Mobile App Team will be made available to download from the Apple and Google Play app stores. Promotion and marketing of these apps will be agreed with the Project Sponsor and addressed on a case-by-case basis.
