Participation

Participation is a harder concept to appreciate, but it is crucial. Participation refers to participating in society, living life in the way the person wants, in the way that they expect and is expected of them. It involves roles.

For example, you are a student, you will be a doctor. You may also be or become a parent. The concept includes matters of choice, preference and meaning.

When participation is reduced or lost, the phrase "participation restriction" is used. Sometimes the word "handicap" is used.
