Hello, my name’s Tom. I have Autism.
If you’re at school to help me there are some things you need to know.
Let’s start with something easy!
If you want me to listen to you it helps if you say my name first. Like this...
“Tom...Good morning”. This really gets my attention as I know that you’re talking to me.
If I don’t respond straight away, be patient, I probably am listening... I just need a little longer to understand. Don’t nudge or tap me, when I get to know you better I might shake your hand.
Oh, and if you sit too close I don’t like it... My teacher tells people I like my personal space!
