COVID-19 Education for African Students

6. When to self-isolate

You should stay at home and self-isolate if:

  • you have any of the most common symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, persistent dry cough or loss of taste and smell) even if you only have mild symptoms
  • you have had a positive COVID-19 test
  • you have been in recent close contact with someone who has tested positive or has COVID-19 symptoms

What else can you do?

  • ask for help from friends to avoid having to go out
  • ask them to leave food outside your door
  • stay in close contact with friends and family via phone or internet
  • get a COVID-19 test if you can
  • if you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately
  • keep up to date with the latest information from trusted sources, such as WHO or your local and national health authorities
  • have a look at the COVEDAS resources section for useful links to local support and current advice
