Dyslexics may have problems in copying information down and making notes, such as in lectures or meetings, because they are slow at writing, or they have to think how a word is spelled. They may have difficulty organising their thoughts when writing reports or essays, and if they rely on their spellcheckers they may sometimes choose an inappropriate word. If assessed as dyslexic in an educational environment, students may be taught adaptive strategies to use to deal with these difficulties. Graphical ways of organising notes and ideas such as mind maps and spidergrams are often very successful. However, students may need help in transferring their adaptive strategies to a new environment, such as work.
