Nottingham Classics Out-and-about (NoCOut)

As a department we are keen to share our knowledge of the ancient Greek and Roman world. This is why we established NoCOut, Nottingham Classics Out-and-about.

We have worked with primary and secondary schools, Cub Scout troops, the University of the Third Age and other local associations. We also have a close relationship with the University Museum at Nottingham Lakeside Arts

Work with us

If you would like to discuss hosting a staff talk, setting up a lunchtime or after-school club, or any other idea relating to the ancient Greek or Roman worlds, please contact us.

Primary schools

We are involved in the Learning Leaders programme run by the University’s Widening Participation team.

The programme offers lunchtime and after-school clubs, run by student volunteers, to local primary schools.

We offer two types of club:

  • Introduction to Latin Language: Using either the Minimus textbook designed for primary-learners or the Cambridge Latin Course
  • Greeks and Romans: No language involved; specific topics relevant to your school can be covered

I signed up for NoCOut to gain experience in schools for my future career. I'm much more confident in my ability to tailor presentations for different audiences and to communicate effectively. I loved working with other Classics students – some of whom I wouldn’t have otherwise met – and I’m really proud of the activities we were able to create together. Dressing up as a Roman became a standard afternoon for me!

Secondary schools

We are keen to offer after-school clubs to secondary schools.

Please contact NoCOut for more information.
