Our courses
Foundation science course
We offer one-year, full-time, pre-undergraduate preparatory science courses for international students who would like to study a science degree but who do not have the usual entry requirements.
Biology and chemistry are the main topics, and completion of a foundation science course with the required levels of achievement will enable you to progress to an undergraduate degree in a number of subject areas.

We offer masters degrees for international students in the following subjects:
- Biological Photography and Imaging
- Clinical Microbiology (Distance Learning)
- Clinical and Molecular Microbiology
- Immunology and Allergy
- Microbiology and Immunology
- Molecular Genetics and Diagnostics
These are taught courses (including lecture, practical and seminar modules) and students will do original research work on a significant project for their masters dissertation.
We offer research degrees including PhD and MRes, in subject areas which cover the school’s research interests and expertise. These degrees align to our research themes in pharmacology, genetics, immunology, physiology, microbiology and neuroscience.
Our international community of postgraduate research students from all over the world become key members of their PhD supervisor’s research group and the lab team.

- A research project of your choice in up to date science and research
- Expert supervision by two or more academics, mentoring and pastoral support

Other study options
The school offers a range of study abroad and exchange opportunities for international undergraduate and postgraduate students. These include:
- The ERASMUS study abroad programme for European students studying at one of our partner institutions
- Erasmus + Traineeship for postgraduate research students from Europe for short-term research project placements in our laboratories
- International exchange and study abroad opportunities for international students from our partner universities and elsewhere who would like to study in Nottingham
We offer the following distance learning option, meaning that you can study this course with us from anywhere in the world.
- MSc Clinical Microbiology (Distance Learning)
This accredited course provides training in clinical microbiology with an emphasis on patient management and infection control.

The University works with several agencies across the world who can provide funding or sponsorship for international students.

School of Life Sciences Global Engagement Scholarship
School of Life Sciences Global Engagement Scholarship
This Scholarship is for students registered on the BSc Biomedical Sciences degree at our sister School at the UNMC Malaysia campus who wish to study in the School of Life Sciences, University of Nottingham, for a postgraduate masters course (MSc) or a postgraduate research masters course (MRes) degree.
CONACYT (Mexico) Tuition Fees Top Up Scheme for PhD courses
This scholarship provides a partial contribution to tuition fees for eligible students who have a place to study for a PhD in the School of Life Sciences and who have a confirmed CONACYT scholarship.
