Records
The St Andrew’s-with-Castle Gate collection (CAA) held at The University of Nottingham contains a comprehensive set of Annual Reports and monthly newsletters recording the life of the church (1975-2004). There are also various printed orders of services and programmes for special events. The collection contains some minutes of church meetings, a series of documents relating to building work to extend the church premises between 1975 and 1986, and photographs, press cuttings and a VHS video commemorating the 20th anniversary of the foundation of church, in June 1995.
The collection also contains records of clubs and societies associated with the church, including the Guide Scout Aid Committee, and the Senior Citizens’ Club. The Stanwell Players are particularly well documented. The Stanwell Players were a church drama group at St Ann’s Well Road Congregational Church, established in 1946. When that church closed in 1970, the members transferred to Castle Gate Congregational Church, and in 1975 the new St Andrew’s-with-Castle Gate Church 'inherited' the Stanwell Players. The drama group thrived in the 1970s and 1980s but closed in 1991.
