Our Expertise and Facilities
The School of Medicine has a strong connection with industry underpinned by our expertise and links with the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, Precision Imaging Beacon, and Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit.
We support the development and testing of innovative new treatments through the Nottingham Clinical Research Facility with specific expertise in experimental medicine and early phase clinical trials and in collaboration with our NHS partners. Our expertise in informatics underpins the management and utilisation of data across all our research.

Case study: Collaboration between University of Nottingham and Cochlear
Cochlear Limited is a global leader in implantable hearing solutions, helping people to hear and be heard, and connecting with others to live a full life. The collaboration between Cochlear and University of Nottingham is a multi-year clinical study to address a wider patient population with severe hearing loss that could benefit from cochlear implant technology. Professor Doug Hartley is the chief investigator of the study from the University of Nottingham.

Case study: Collaboration between University of Nottingham and AstraZeneca
AstraZeneca is working with University of Nottingham's Professor Gordon Moran, Professor of Gastroenterology at the School of Medicine, to explore underlying mechanisms of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. The collaboration activities include a multi-year, multi-centre study that will look at the effect of different treatments on patients’ outcomes to help predict treatment response.
