Asma's research focuses on the following areas:
1. Developing microbial processes to treat and valorise industrial waste streams from sectors such as fertiliser production, paper and pulp manufacturing, coal washeries, and mushroom farming.
2. Exploring the potential of fungi to create sustainable biomaterials and alternative proteins, aiming to reduce reliance on traditional plastics and animal proteins.
3. Utilisation of microalgae for CO2 capture, and valorisation of the spent biomass into high-value products, promoting a circular economy.
