Economic diplomacy and the evolution of diplomatic agency; trade, investment, and strategic economic cooperation between states; strategic interests as factors shaping contemporary economic diplomacy, in particular, the current trends and practices in South and Southeast Asia. Dr Jarral’s recent work is focused on the negotiation of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the joint management of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) nestled at the heart of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Dr Jarral has examined the processes of domestic decision-making on economic issues, international negotiations, diplomatic methods, instruments, and defence diplomacy.
Dr Jarral has previously been interviewed and quoted by Reuters and the Centre for International Governance Innovation. He has extensively contributed to the online magazine of University of Nottingham Asia Research Institute on a range of topics related to Asia, Pakistan and Kashmir. He has written several articles for newspapers on trade, investment and domestic politics.
