Validation and Integration of Manufacturing Enablers for Future Wing Structures

Objectives

  • Define and optimise the assembly operations to meet the production rates anticipated for the A350 programme and other future programmes
  • Take concepts from TRL2 to TRL4, through demonstration of key and novel aspects of the automation process, and provide business case to develop to TRL6

Impact / Results

Demonstrated automated assembly processes and enabling operations including:

  • Component identification
  • Sealant application
  • Part inspection
  • Safety systems
  • Production logistics
  • Paint dabbing on fastener tails
