Viola Wiegand was awarded a prize for attaining the highest average score among MA students in the School of English. During her MA, Viola held a postgraduate research scholarship within the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics, for which she is still an active Research Assistant. In October, Viola started working on her PhD project ('A corpus-assisted study on discourses of surveillance since 9/11') with supervisors Professor Michaela Mahlberg and Professor Reiner Grundmann. She is also co-founder of the Corpus Linguistics Workshop, which provides regular opportunities for discussing research in the field of corpus linguistics.
