CSVA Welcomes New Members

The CSVA is pleased to welcome two new members in the academic year 2012-13.

Michael P. Barnes, Emeritus Professor of Scandinavian Studies at University College London, has been appointed an Honorary Professor associated with the Centre for three years from 1 August 2012. Michael is an eminent runologist and linguist, and has been appointed in recognition of his expertise in the history of the Scandinavian languages and runological studies. Michael will be giving a talk on 'What is Norn' at the Midlands Viking Symposium on 27 April 2013, and we look forward to welcoming him to Nottingham on other occasions.

Dr John Shafer has been appointed to the temporary post of Teaching Associate in Norse and Viking Studies, starting on 1 January 2013. John, who did his PhD on Saga-Accounts of Norse Far-Travellers at the University of Durham, will be teaching both undergraduate and masters' modules in Norse and Viking Studies, and in medieval studies more generally.
