Looking forward to 2014

Things have been a bit quiet on the CSVA events front, due to the external commitments of senior staff, and the large numbers of students to teach this year, but such a situation cannot be allowed to continue, and plans are afoot for some exciting events in 2014.

First up will be the Fell-Benedikz lecture on 7 February 2014, when Leslie Webster (formerly of the British Museum) will address the question of Belief on the Battlefield: Religion and Politics in the Staffordshire Hoard.

Later on in February and March, the Norse and Viking Seminar will come alive again, with contributions by our Honorary Professor Michael Barnes on editing the Manx runic inscriptions, and our Honorary Lecturer Terje Spurkland on Håkon Håkonsson: King and Litteratus. The dates and times are still to be confirmed, so watch this space.

There are also the Midlands Viking Symposium (in Birmingham this year) and the final conference of theLanguages, Myths and Finds Project: Unlocking the Vikings, to look forward to.

In the meantime, we wish everyone a gleðileg jól!
