The Intriguing Disappearance of the Norse Greenlanders

Vikings, or people of Scandinavian origin, primarily from Iceland, settled in Greenland shortly before the year 1000. That settlement lasted for nearly half a millennium, but no one knows exactly how, why or when it came to an end. This is a topic that continues to engage the attention of researchers in a wide variety of disciplines, as can be read in recent press items. Both the Washington Post and the Swiss newspaper Le Temps survey recent research attempts and quote the views of Professor Judith Jesch, Director of the Centre for the Study of the Viking Age.
