Vikings, or people of Scandinavian origin, primarily from Iceland, settled in Greenland shortly before the year 1000. That settlement lasted for nearly half a millennium, but no one knows exactly how, why or when it came to an end. This is a topic that continues to engage the attention of researchers in a wide variety of disciplines, as can be read in recent press items.
