New book by Judith Jesch, Professor in Viking Studies, shows the poetic side of Vikings. The collection contains extracts from the full range of Viking poetry translated in English, from the highly formal to the light-hearted and bawdy. This colourful volume is an accessible introduction to the broad variety of poetry of the Vikings. The sources range from the 10th to the 13th centuries, and from runes (carvings on wood, bone and stone) and oral tradition to medieval manuscripts.
